Equine Assisted Learning & Therapy
Imagine how lovely it feels to be completely accepted for who you are, loved unconditionally, and learn about yourself and others – all in peaceful picturesque rural surrounds only minutes from Caboolture.
Come and relax, learn, de-stress and reconnect thanks to Katrina and her team's expert teaching and her beautiful herd of horses.
Horses bring a unique authentic relationship that helps humans become more aware and live in the moment. They don’t judge you or care about your past – they simply want to connect with you in the moment.
Whether you are on a healing/recovery journey, want to improve your mental wellbeing, experience very special personal development or learn leadership skills, Herd Together is here for you.
Equine Assisted Learning and Equine Assisted Therapy clients or groups learn skills or overcome problems from resources taught by the horses.
Our guests feel so happy here they never want to leave!
We are a charitable organization dedicated to serving our community. Our mission is to provide assistance to those in need and promote social welfare through a variety of programs and initiatives. With the help of our dedicated volunteers and generous donors, we are able to make a positive impact in the lives of many.
Herd Together Inc. is a Certified Facility set on 8 idyllic acres in Bellmere Qld, just north of Brisbane.. We are a Registered Charity with DRG status that is committed to positively impacting the emotional, mental, behavioral, and social challenges all of ages within our community.
Our programs are synonymous with professional training as they are results-based programs. These unique programs provide a genuine alternative to more traditional methods of assisting young disadvantaged people into a functional and fruitful life.
We have been working together with Youth and Family Service organisations in the Moreton Bay region, Department for Child Safety and Correctional Services, NDIS and other organisations.
Our property is private, has bathroom amenities, access for wheelchairs and mostly flat land, Come and see kangaroos foraging and lounging in the paddocks, hear the songs of many species of birds, and find peace and calm in the presence of our intuitive horses and ponies.
Horses are naturally social animals with personalities, attitudes, fears, and moods, and they are very sensitive to the energy around them. They will respond appropriately to human interaction, allowing learners to experience a sense of connection and participation without the negative feelings sometimes associated with traditional counseling.
Through our horse whispering sessions - individual sessions or workshops, participants interact with horses and ponies while completing on-the-ground activities (no riding), we can help develop motivation, confidence, critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills, as well as work to overcome depression, anxiety, behavioral problems, educational challenges and much more.
Horses and teenagers are seeking the same feelings of trust and connection, and once a child realizes this similarity, he or she is able to form a connection that is uplifting and inspiring. Horses can teach people about themselves and their interaction with others around them.
Youth are referred to our services by youth & family welfare services. This referral process ensures that all youth participating in the program need benevolent aid due to factors such as a family history of domestic violence, low socio-economic conditions; and mental health issues. The program services the Moreton Bay Region, and North Brisbane areas.
Katrina (our head facilitator) is available to speak to work teams or school-groups on how the principles of natural horsemanship can help humans learn to communicate with calm assertiveness, trust, and respect..
Our guests go through a series of mainly one-on-one interactions with horses, under the supervision of an EAP/EAL practitioner/facilitator.
As prey animals, horses are acutely attuned to the body language of humans.
"The horses act as mirrors, so whatever your energy is, or your emotions are at that time, they're going to mirror that to you”.
This helps develop life skills like self-awareness and the ability to regulate emotions and to promote awareness, be in the here and the now and live in the moment.
One of the major benefits of equine-assisted therapy is improved mood. The improved mood is a signal that we are giving cells of the brain and body the chance to operate on a healthy level. By participating in equine therapy, ypeople learn invaluable skills, not just horsemanship.
At Herd Together we involve you in everything from 'catching' the horse (they usually come to us), grooming, games, liberty play, horsemanship, horse safety, feeding, and more.
It’s scientifically proven that simply being around horses naturally slows our heartbeat and breath. Just stroking a horse and observing it up close supports people to stop thinking and live in the now.
